Pledges are men at our various active chapters, colonies, or pledge colonies which are seeking to join our Fraternity. They meet regularly to learn the traditions and values of Sigma Theta Epsilon under the instruction of the Pledgemaster. Why would anyone want to join STE?
Actives are the currently-enrolled student members of our organization who carry on our traditions of Service and Brotherhood on a daily basis on their campuses and in their communities. They are the heart and soul of our Fraternity.
Sigma Theta Epsilon also has classes of membership known as "Associate" and "Inactive," but their description goes beyond the scope and purpose of this document.
Men who faithfully complete their service to Sigma Theta Epsilon in college become Alumni in a special ceremony where they receive the Degree of the Knotted Rope. Many of them no longer participate in fraternity activities on a day-to-day basis, but they remain united to us always as Brothers, as they go on to impact the Church and the World for the cause of Christ. Where are they now?
A "Sweetheart" is a woman selected by each chapter as an honorary member of the fraternity. Her presence provides the Brotherhood with opportunities to serve her and to see a different perspective on various issues.
Advisors and Sponsors are chosen from the faculty of the college or university and from campus ministries to serve as counselors for the local chapter. They automatically become honorary members of the fraternity.
From time to time, a local chapter (or the National organization) may see fit to bestow honorary fraternity membership on a person from the community. It is reserved for anyone who is not otherwise eligible for membership. (i.e. - not current students of a University where we have a chapter.)
